Dear Supporter,
As Spring brings new life to the Driftless Region, we take a moment to reflect with gratitude on all that we have accomplished together at Hokyoji Zen Practice Community over the last year. Thanks to your past support, Hokyoji has continued to grow as a place of deep practice and refuge.
Looking to the present and beyond, we are looking to raise $20,000 during this fundraiser. Hokyoji is in the middle of an exciting time of transition. In the last year, we have held numerous retreats, hosted like minded groups, and increased outreach. We have conducted a successful capital campaign to build a new Zendo. We recently hired a new Resident Manager & Resident Manager Assistant; a part-time Office Manager and engaged an accountant. We continue to be the best stewards we can be of this beautiful land.
But we need your help. Retreat fees and rentals only cover a portion of our expenses. As we shift from relying solely on volunteers with meager stipends, we are building a paid staff to care for the grounds, maintain facilities, and support our retreats with cooking and cleaning. Additionally, we have begun paying for the mortgage on Mauss Hall and the Guest Hall from our regular budget.
Your generosity makes it all possible. Every gift—large or small—supports the ongoing vitality of Hokyoji so please donate today. And if you would like to deepen your commitment, consider joining Friends of Hokyoji, our new membership program. Friends of Hokyoji receive retreat discounts, attend Annual Meetings, and vote on Board members—affirming their dedication to Hokyoji’s mission.
For those looking to ensure Hokyoji’s long-term future, the Stewards of Hokyoji program offers a way to include Hokyoji in your planned giving, securing its place for generations to come.
We are grateful for your continued support and for being part of this ever-growing circle of practice and community.
You can also write a check to Hokyoji (please write “June Appeal” in the note field) and send it to the address at the bottom of the home page. Please make your donation today. Thank you for your generosity!
With deep gratitude,
Guiding Teacher Dokai Georgesen Executive Director Carl Hultman
Board President Marilyn Kaman
